Mr. Monk and the ankle-broken public health officer

My co-worker Rósa came by yesterday with some DVD's for me. Allo, allo the first 4 seasons, Monk the first season, 24 the first season and Inspector Morse. Weeeee ! And I immediately started my DVD marathon by watchin Monk. For those not familiar with the show, Monk is about a former detective that suffers from OCD (obsessive compulsive disorder) and anxiety. His assistant Sharona helps keep him functional in human society. He is of course an amazing detective that can spot a murder from a mile off. Now I've seen all 12 episodes of the first season and I want more. More Mr. Monk ! Sigh, not like I don't have anything else to watch, still.... Maybe I'm obsessed with him, and have a compulsion to see more... Well, Inspector Morse is next, let´s try a sane detective.

The plot thickens.....

Now I´m really curious. At midnight the mysterious machine started up again. Hmmm. Then some angry conversation. Then bumping sounds. Footsteps. Silence. Saw-like sounds are heard. Somebody exits the apartment, walks down the stairs, throws something in the garbage chute. That somebody enters the apartment again. What is going on ???????? Well, at least the wife is still alive.... maybe they are luring unsuspecting victims into the apartment and killing them together ?? The exciting saga continues....

More silly name decoders

Sinister, Vicious, Anthropologist-Vaporizing Abomination

Falling asleep can be a big feat if things go bump in the night

Mrfhp. I am all of a sudden wide awake, it's 2:27 AM and I should be fast asleep. Soooo, why no sleep ? Well, there is the matter of the strange machine noise that started at 1:23. And the weird sound that to my imagination sounded like someone was hacking a body into pieces (yes, I know, I spend too much time on crimenews.com). Then, a myriad of unidentifiable bumping sounds and the sound of hurried footsteps going back and forth. Hmmm. The machine woke me up, and the rest is keeping me awake. What the #BLEEP# is going on ??????? In the past few days I've been hearing sounds consistent with an argument followed by several bump sounds from the same location.... Maybe my theory of body chopping isn't so farfetched after all.... Mrrd, must sleep again !! Stop whatever you are doing !!

The very best spaghetti sauce in the whooole wide world

I got very lucky last night. My friend Kristín Anna came over with her two children and cooked dinner for me. On the menu was her totally irresistible spaghetti meat sauce with pasta. AAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHH ! I love this meat sauce ! Kristín has been using it for years to bribe me to do things for her: babysit, kill people, rob banks... There is nothing I wouldn't do to taste it. Mmmmmmmmmm. HEAVEN ! Kristín should be up for sainthood for inventing it. I have tried to duplicate it, but sorry, it's never the same :( If Kristín decides to work with Paul Newman and produce this sauce she is going to be a millionaire. Check it out Kristín, call the old guy ;-)

Sudoku, sudoku and some more sudoku

When everybody started to talk about this new craze, a simple looking number puzzle, I immediately knew it was bad news. Bad news if I got hooked on it,that is. After awhile I decided that maybe it would be safe to do one. Or two. Just one more. Two. Three. Arrrrghhh ! Yes, I am hooked. Am sitting here with a 100 puzzle book, and I can't stop. Will seek treatment later.....promise, ehe ?

Rabbit rabbit on the bed

My friend Sigrún and her son Víðir Davíð came to visit me today. We ordered a pizza and Sigrún provided an ice cold beer to go with it. They left shortly after eight and I spent the evening here alone. Hilda had made a lucky escape from the sick house and went to stay overnight with her cousin Guðlaug. Before she left she put the rabbit in my bed. And there he stayed for more than 13 hours !!! He just cuddled up at the end of the bed, occationally stretching his legs and making little trips to my side of the bed to do a little sniffing :-) This is truly an amazing animal. Finally, hunger won over and he went to his cage to feed and pee :-) And is now complaining loudly because I locked him in his cage for the night. Sorry rabbit !

The old cast Posted by Picasa

Prognosis: excellent :-)

Bye bye old cast, hello new ! Today I limped down the stairs and went to the hospital for a checkup. The cast was removed and the stitches removed. No sign of infection, everything had healed just fine. The x-rays confirmed my hopes, the bones were in the right place and looking good :-) So, now I have to wait another three weeks, then I'll get rid of the cast and can start walking again :-) My friend Júlíana took me to the hospital, and then took me to her home for some change of scenery. In the afternoon the children came home and Eva decorated my new cast while I cuddled Steingrímur :-) Very nice day, zanks Júlíana :-) I must admit I was very tired when I had finished climbing the stairs again and the bed was all of a sudden looking very good. May the 11th, that's D-day, when I say farewell to the cast :-)

What Wikipedia had to say about my birthday

I saw yet another meme on Gunnella's website. You were supposed to go to Wikipedia, look up your birthday (minus the year) and list three events that happened on your birthday. List two important birthdays and one interesting death and then post this in your journal. Well, I went to Wikipedia, and found it very interesting:

Events:
1924 - St. Petersburg, Russia, is renamed Leningrad.
1945 - Soviet troops liberate Auschwitz, the concentration camp in Poland
1984 - The first Apple Macintosh goes on sale.
Birthdays:
1705 - Farinelli, Italian castrato (d.1782 )
1928 - Desmond Morris, British anthropologist and writer
Death:
1989 - Ted Bundy, American serial killer (executed) (b.1946 )

Other people that share my birthday are Ernest Borgnine, John Belushi, Sharon Tate and Mischa Barton. Roman caesar Caligula was killed and the opening statements of the OJ Simpson trial were delivered on my birthday.

Beautiful baby boys :-)

Finally ! I was able to lure my sister Svanhildur to visit me with her two boys. Weeee ! Óli and Steinar are soooooo cute and really know how to brighten one's day :-) Óli sat in my lap and pointed at my night table and made commanding sounds. At first I foolishly believed he wanted a small teddy bear that lay on the table, but noooo, not good enough. Ahh, then I saw what he desired... my cell phone :-) He was very happy to get it in his hands :-) Steinar was hungry like a wolf and wasn't ready to say hi to auntie Svava until he had gotten something to eat :-) Ohhhh, they are irresistible !

Monster me

Your Monster Profile

Twisted Worm

You Feast On: Lasanga

You Lurk Around In: Nude Beaches

You Especially Like to Torment: Your Evil Twin

I've been memed !

My friend Gunnella has "memed" me. This is the latest fad in blogland, akin to the tagging buisness ;-) Here we go:

First town I ever lived in: Born and bred in Reykjavík, the wonderful capital of our country.

First album owned: It was called "Þrjú á palli og Sólskinskórinn". Much later I remember buying Duran Duran: Arena.

First gig seen: Guess that must be the Kim Larsen concert I saw when 15 or 16.

First Celebrity Crush: That's an easy one, it was Harrison Ford. After seeing "Raiders of the lost ark" I got a poster of him that stayed on the wall of my bedroom for some years.

First Film you remember seeing: King Kong, shown in Háskólabíó movie theater. I was 4-5 years old and I spent most of the time running around the theater talking to my friends. I still wonder why everybody considered King Kong a movie for small children, my mother included ? It was the 1976 version with Jeff Bridges and Jessica Lange, and amazingly enough I still remember many details from the film.

First time you drank alcohol: If one disregards the times one accidentaly sipped one's parents "cola" on New Years Eve, it was when I was 8 years old and playing with my school pal Ásthildur. In the basement we found bottles of her father's home-made redwine, and since some of it was in 1L Coca Cola bottles we decided to try this refreshing drink. I remember that we didn't quite like it, but we tasted from 3 bottles before giving up the enterprise altogether.

First paying job: Babysitting my niece Helen Laufey for my sister Magga the summer of 1985.

First Kiss: I was 10. Me and my friend Jóna chased Jón Geir, the cutest guy in my class, around the garden until we could pin him down in the grass and forcing him to kiss us. He must still be having nightmares.

Well, now I have to "meme" somebody... Guess I'll meme my friends Magnea and Björg, and my sister Steingerður :-)

The cleaning hunk !

Hahaha, now I've found the perfect cleaner :D I will never ever clean my house any other way:
The Cleaning Hunk, rrroooowr !

Playing Scrabble, and cuddling Steinar and the rabbit in between moves Posted by Picasa

Scrabble scrabble and some more fun

Three of my sisters; Helen, Magga and Svanhildur came and played Scrabble with me on Saturday. Playing Scrabble is something we do regularly and have for many years. A game always includes some bantering, insults and countless atempts to get pure gibberish accepted as real words, especially when a triple word score is involved :-) This time was no different. Some desperate attempts to credit a silly word were made with the aid of my dictionary. To my pure enjoyment I hit jackpot - my word actually excisted ! Ýr = means to ridicule someone. Yes, and it was on a triple word score :-) The letter Ý gives 9 points. Nice :-) Unfortunately, my sister Magga won the first game, but I managed to win the next one (inside was a happy woman jumping around with joy, but in reality I just kept to the sofa). In the evening Júlíana brought me leftovers from her daughter's birthday party. Mmmmmm, veeeeeery nice :-)
On Sunday I had a visit from my friends Sif and Gunna. Gunna had her son Óskar with her. We chatted away and had some candy and popcorn. Just what I needed after gobbling up the easter egg :-) So, Sunday was not spent in solitude and misery :-) My sister Magga sent me the Easter dinner, lamb with all the trimmings. Mmmmmmm ! So happily I go to sleep, after watching the film Bananas by Woody Allen. And from now on the national language of Iceland is swedish, everyone shall change their underwear every half hour and wear it on the outside. And oh yes, ever child that is under 16 is now 16 ! Good night !

Víðir decorating the Easter tree Posted by Picasa

Easter decorations done !

Over the years I have accumulated a sizeable amount of Easter decorations. Handpainted wooden eggs from Poland, small wooden rabbits and an Easter tree. Yes, an Easter tree ? Doesn't everybody have one (insane laugh). Well, it's made from wires coated with paper and it rises from a wooden easter egg. So there. Completely normal to have one. Today I had my friend Sigrún and her son Víðir over for a visit. Víðir was kind enough to decorate the Easter tree for me and he also took care of other decorations. So, now my house is ready for the Easter holiday. And my chocolate Easter egg is also ready, waiting to be devoured on Sunday. Mmmmmm, chocolate.................

Hilda and her new baby brother Posted by Picasa

Big sister Hilda :-)

My daughter Hilda had another little brother on Wednesday ;-) Her other brother Heimir is 4 1/2 years old so it is fun to have a tiny new brother to cuddle. Needless to say, she is very happy and very proud :-) To my surprise some people have reacted to the news with great surprise and confusion. Seems that people sometime forget that Hilda has two parents and yes, in light of me not showing ANY signs of pregnancy in the past months, it must be the father that is producing an offspring :-) I find this kind of funny :-) But check out the picture of the happy sister !

Awww, he's soooooo cute :-) Posted by Picasa

Rabbit hare ?

My darling Brad Pitt, the cutest rabbit in the world is hopping around the apartment, carefree and happy. I was looking at him just now and noticing how small he is, compared to other rabbits I've seen. When he stretches he reminds me of a hare, with much shorter ears of course. This animal is really amazing, he is so tame and just loves a cuddle. The only problem I have now is that my daughter has left me and I can't follow him around and see what he's up to. So, he is somewhere around... maybe doing som mischief. But it's worth it, seeing him occationally skipping into my room :D

My aunt Svava, my sister Helen and my cousin Gunnhildur chatting at the party Posted by Picasa

A cripple with a cast on crutches in a confirmation party

Today I braved the stairs and went to a confirmation party. My cousin Gunnhildur's son Þorvaldur was the one being confirmed. On arrival I greeted the family and then sat me down at a table where I sat the whole evening without moving. The party was like a huge family reunion, a lot of my cousins were there and of course my aunt Svava, the grandmother of the confirmant. As always when this family meets there were lots of funny remarks and witty replies to be heard and enjoyed. I managed to spill two glasses of soda on our table and thus earned a few remarks from friendly relatives. I gave my camera to my sister Helen so she could take pictures of everybody for me. She walked around and dutifully snapped pictures of every relative in sight... or so she thought ! Actually, she never pushed the button fully down, and thus didn't take a single picture :-) Dinner was delicious and the chocolate cake was a wonderful dessert. MMmmmmmm. Great company and great food, only drawback was the bloody leg keeping me from mingling. After the party I had to climb the stairs again. Eeeek ! I managed to do it, but lay panting in my bed afterwards. The broken leg is a bit tired after this experience, I shall not move my butt tomorrow!
