Introducing Mr. Brad Pitt

The latest addition to my zoo is a guy named Brad Pitt. Like his namesake, simply irresistable :-) He likes to be petted, all the time. And his fur is supersoft. Ooooh :-)

Of rabbits, babies and wrong-number phone calls :-)

A weekend spent in good company is a weekend that relaxes and recharges batteries. Steingrímur came to stay with me on Friday and much to my happiness is in an excellent mood and making good progress. He crawls considerable distances now, tries to stand up and his legs are much stronger. He has taken a few steps if I hold his hands and sit in front of him. My big boy ! (yes, I know, his parents own him too, bla bla). We visited my friend Sif on Friday evening and the lady of the house, one Arna Ösp, was also in high spirits :-) On Saturday we had an unexpected "visitor". A rabbit, that had wandered into the police station in Kópavogur, was destined to die, since the owners could not be found. My meditation teacher works at the animal clinic and called me to see if I could safe her, at least for the time being. Of course I said yes :-) So, there is a cute brown rabbit in an old cat cage staying here with us :-) I took Steingrímur down to Laugavegur on Saturday to meet Svanhildur and family at the Te og Kaffi coffeeshop. Afterwards we went to my mothers place where we met the family again and Óli waltzed around with kitchen pots and various breakable things :-) Steinar just sat relaxed in his chair, and Steingrímur crawled the longest distance I've ever seen him crawl...escaping from me after I gave him his medicine :-) But the weekend has also been about people calling the wrong number. First, on Friday, a women called as I was picking up Steingrímur. She told me she had just landed and would I please try to reach mother, her phone was off the hook. Ok, I explained that I couldn't help her :-) Then I came home and had another phone call, this time from Bónus Video. They wanted to speak to Matthías about the tapes he was delivering. I told them there was no Matthías in this number. They wouldn't believe that and questioned me repeatedly about the possibility of me bringing back the tapes or my family members. Finally they understood that Matthías had simply given them the wrong number ! The third call came yesterday at almost midnight. That was a girl called Rósa that wanted to speak to her friend Anna. She couldn't take no for an answer either, thought I was Annas mother no matter what I said. Finally she got the picture, but her number called again 2 minutes later, but she hung up when she heard my voice :-)

Meditation and tonglen

Last weekend I had a meditation course, both Saturday and Sunday. It was a great course and it made me feel really calm and relaxed. Which is something I rarely experience, as people should know :-) We did some meditation, both sitting and walking, and then dined together in complete silence. That is not as easy as it sounds by the way :-) Then we learned a method called tonglen. Tonglen means "giving and taking". In Tibetan: 'tong' means 'sending out' or 'letting go' and 'len' means 'receiving' or 'accepting'. What you do is that you breathe in the the negative things and sorrow around you, destroy it and breathe out positivity and joy. You can do this to a person, a group, the earth or the universe. Quite an experience this was, and left me much food for thought. My teacher Dagmar Vala is just great. We also learned how to make a delicious organic vegetable paté. Mmmmmmmm ! Yummi ! Very good course indeed :-)

Babysitting, hospital visits and adress tags

My weekend was filled with events. First, a cowboy beer night Friday night. Then on Saturday (feeling duly hung over), I went to a natural history museum to help my sister complete a school project. In the afternoon I babysat for my friend Sif. Her daughter Arna Ösp is a very jolly little person :D We had a lot of fun together, she hardly noticed her mother was gone ;-) But that evening I also got bad news :( My darling Steingrímur had a seizure and was admitted to hospital. He also had pneumonia. Poor darling ! I visited him and his parent at the hospital on Sunday. I was pleased to see he was doing much better, and he was allowed home that evening. Now he has to relax and get well ! Sunday evening I finished by putting elastics on adress tags for Icelandair. Very satisfying job... NOT. But Hilda is going to Sweden next summer to compete, and we are trying to raise money for the trip. GAAA, the things you do for your child ! I will shudder at the sight of an adress tag for the rest of my life.

Cowboy beer party !

Last Friday we had a Cowboy beer party at work. A lot of people turned up in costume or with props. We had decorated with a fake campfire, gold nuggets and a pickaxe, fake cactus and some great Wanted-posters with pictures of selected co-workers. And we also made Western style bar doors that we fitted to the kitchen door :-) Great fun altogether :-)

As you can see, there were many great decorations to create the right mood for some good Cowboy fun :-) Posted by Picasa
