After great dinner, relaxing in my lovely bed

Today was great. My friend Kristín was kind enough to pick up my new egg-carton mattress for my bed and together we put it on the bed. Mmmm, now my bed is extra supportive, something I desperately need after nearly 9 weeks in bed ! To add to the joy my mother and sister invited me to dinner. Since the sister was Svanhildur it meant that I got to meet my darling nephews Steinar and Óli. They are so funny and cute :-) Óli stole my purse and played with the contents, his favourite being the camera. He got to play with it a little, under heavy supervision :-) Steinar is a young gentleman that likes his food and thus made himself heard angrily when his mother took too long to give him the next spoonful. Reminded me of my daughter... Well, home I went, full and happy, am now lying in my improved bed feeling quite good. Good night !

The killer rabbit on video

Hija folks. Yes, you've seen countless pictures of him, especially in the past 8 weeks. But now you can feast your eyes on videos of him ! In video nr. 1 he is playing with paper, and in video nr. 2 he is washing himself :-)

Helga in action :-) Posted by Picasa

Helga the angelic cleaning woman :-)

My darling friend Helga came to my rescue today. For the past 8 weeks I haven't been able to clean my apartment, most cleaning jobs being a tad difficult to pull off while using crutches. Nice family members and friends have helped me keep the place sanitary, but my room (my prison) was really in need of a make-over. After taking me to the polls to vote (it's election day, the communal elections) Helga came home with me and cleaned my room from top to bottom ! She also vaccumed, washed the bathroom floor and washed my curtains.. and and and... ! She is a real angel !!! Mucho grazias !!! I have sent a letter to Pope, nominating her for sainthood :-)

Rabid rabbit

Yesterday my friend Sif came over with her daughter Arna Ösp and we feasted on a pizza together. Arna was very excited about the rabbit and ran towards my bed the minute she spotted it sitting there. The rabbit jumped, startled and scared. When Sif lifted Arna on to the bed my placid, peaceful little rabbit turned into a rabid lunatic ! The little rascal started growling and tried to bite Arna's toes ! Sif pushed him away with her hand and then he bit her !!! Eeeek ! I grabbed the bandit and put him on the floor, after a short while he cooled down and behaved for the rest of the evening. But from now on I will let children approach Mr. Brad with caution.....

I googled Svava and found out some interesting things :-)

Would you believe it ! In Upsala, Sweden one can find a Hotel Svava ! It would be fun to stay there one day :-) For more info on Hotel Svava click here. Upsala really likes my name, there is also a shopping center called Svava ! The hotel and shopping center are in the same place. And then there is The Svava tube fly: "The "Svava" fly is built on a one-inch black rubber tube, that is slightly heavier than the ordinary plastic tube. It works extremely well in strong currents". More puzzling is the book named Svava that is about an ancient codex called Thidreks saga. Anyways, I found out that there are a lot of Svavas out there !

My other blog has been revived

I have revived my icelandic blog. There I will post some personal rantings about this and that. As usual the english blog will be my main blog about my life (miserable or not). The link to the icelandic blog is on top of my favourite bloggers list :-) and also here.

A map of the 22 countries I've visited (soon to be 23!)

create your own visited country map
or check our Venice travel guide

Actually, I have also visited the small island cluster Aland Islands, that belong to Finland. They were not on the list for the map, but hey, they have their own flag.

Mission possible

The days crawl by at an anoyingly slow pace. Friday it will be 8 weeks since the accident. And it will also mark the passing of two weeks since I got rid of the cast and got the orders not to use the left foot for another 2-3 weeks. So, I'm going to be diplomatic and start to try the foot after 2 1/2 weeks. So my mission of surviving staying at home, stuck in my room, suddenly seems less impossible, actually moving over to the possible category. Watching the lobsters fight might sound exciting to some, but after almost 8 weeks it has lost its glory. So, another week, give or take a couple of days, then the big day comes... I will walk again ! Slowly, limping, in pain.... but walking none the less :-) Anyways, I had a great weekend. Hilda was home, she started her week here by taking a class trip to Lake Laugavatn. She came home on Friday :-) On Saturday we watched Eurovision, celebrating Finlands victory. On Sunday Magnea visited us with her daughter Eyrún. Magnea brought bread and cheese, mmmm. After enjoying the refreshments and a good chat, I got Magnea to drive me and Hilda to the cinema (thanks Magnea). There we were met by Svanhildur, Guðlaug and little Aron, my sister's Magga's grandchild, and we went to see Mission impossible 3. We enjoyed the film, although it was rather predictable sometimes. But argh, I was in pain when I got home. The right leg isn't up to much action :-( So, I rounded up the weekend with a couple of parkodin forte painkillers. Must remember.... only a week left !

Mr. Lordi in all his glory in Eurovison last night Posted by Picasa

Hard Rock Hallelujah !

YES ! Finland won Eurovision ! I am so glad that the religious fanatic Carola from Sweden didn't win, as had been predicted. Lordi rules ! Who would have thought that a hard rock band dressed as monsters would win the corniest competition of them all ?? Me and Hilda voted for them, of course :-) So, Scandinavian freaks can be winners, despite the eastern countries conspiracy :-) HARD ROCK HALLELUJAH !

One of my lobsters doing a balancing act  Posted by Picasa

Congratulations !

So Silvia Night blew her chance in Eurovision, surprise surprise. If we put aside the fact that her behavior in the past week was embarassing and she got everybody to hate her, she was also breathless on stage and actually didn't deliver the song very well. Next year we'll send some hard rocking aliens (wait a minute, somebody already did that..). My sisters Helen and Magga came by with my laundry (my lucky family members have to do the laundry for the invalid) and then we played two games of Scrabble. Helen won both games, grrrrd ! Was planning to throw her off the balcony, but the crutches make it hard for me to sneak up to her. Just wait, I'll win next time !

Om mani padme hum

Yesterday was a busy day for the invalid. I went to the hospital for a one hour lecture on bone protection and fall prevention :-) Part of the program is taking blood tests and measuring bone density, that will be done on June 6th. This was helpful, now I know which foods contain the most calcium and vitamin D. Must build stronger bones ! In the evening I went to Dagmar Vala for the regular Wednesday night meditation. It was soooo refreshing, I had really missed going. Vala was kind enough to pick me up and drop me off again. It is amazing how much easier it is to meditate in a group, rather than alone. I hope I can go again next Wednesday.

Ahhhh, life is wonderful, not a care in the world for a small rabbit. Posted by Picasa

Helga and Magnea playing Zatre Posted by Picasa

Zatre evening at Magnea's

Game club meeting Tuesday night, just like old times :-) We met at Magnea's place because her husband is away and she stuck at home with the children. The evening was revolutionary....we played Zatre, not Carcassone !! Amazing ! :-) We played two games, and Magnea won both. Of course me and Helga just let her win, to make here feel better, she missing her husband and all (you believe me don't you, don't you ???). It was sooo great to get out of the house and enjoy the good company. And it was actually fun to try something different, even though Carcassone totally rules.

Sunday sun in Steinka's garden

I got lucky today, my sister Magga came and picked me up so I could join her, Steinka, Helen and Mother in Steinka's garden. The sun was shining, although the breeze was rather cool. We enjoyed refreshments and chatted away, my darling sisters strifing to solve the Sunday cross-word from newspaper Morgunblaðið. The dog demanded my attention several times, when she wants someone to pet her she is quite insistent :-) This was a great way to spend the day, I think I might even have a couple of freckles on my nose :-) Soon I'll be tanned....riiiiight.

New light and brown highlights in my hair Posted by Picasa

Party time - excellent !

Last night I was at the annual dinner/ball/festivity arranged by my workplace. In preparation for the event I had a hair make-over a la my friend Silla, at her saloon in Hafnarfjörður, on Friday. As always, I stepped (hobbled on crutches) out of her chair with a big smile on my face :-) That girl really knows how to do wonders with my hair :-) Júlíana was my private chauffeur that day. Not only did she drive me in her car, but also wheeled me around in a wheelchair in the Smáralind mall. I was looking for an outfit for Saturday night, but we found nothing agreeable. So, on Saturday me and my friend Sif went to Kringlan mall on a mission to find something, with the clock ticking since she had to be back to take care of her daughter as her father watched an important football game :-) It was kind of funny to see us together, a pregnant woman pushing an invalid in a wheelchair in fashion shops :-) The mission was successful, we found a skirt and a top suitable for the occation :-) My darling Helga and her boyfriend Dóri picked me up in the afternoon for a pre-party hosted by Árný, the head of the public health inspection. It was great to meet my co-workers again, some I hadn't seen in six weeks. Then we left for the main event, that was in Reykjavík city center. There I had many a merry meeting with co-workers, getting hugs and kisses and everything :-) The evening was great fun and I enjoyed it so much. But when I came home a little before 1 o'clock, my left ankle had turned purple... and is the size of an elephant's foot. So, Sunday will be spent in peace and quiet. And for those wondering why I'm writing this after 4 o'clock in the night.... I drank way to much coffee after dinner, am wide awake and can't sleep ! Silly Svava !
