America the beautiful....!!!

Amazing ! Just when I think I've heard it all, a news story from the US of A just slaps me in the face. A man has just been released from prison after serving 35 YEARS for stealing a black-and-white TV. YES, A TV-THIEF SPENT 35 YEARS IN JAIL !!! Do I really have to tell you that he is black ?? GAAAAAAAAAA ! The USA needs to seriously rethink their justice system !

Last Monday marked the end of the winter season in Hildas athletic sport club. They had a party for the kids where they got prizes for various things. She got two prizes, one for best attendance, the other I don't know what for, will talk to her later today. Proud mum ! Posted by Hello

Steingrímur Páll on a weekend visit

My foster son Steingrímur is here for the weekend :-) He has been in high spirits since yesterday and is more alert and stronger than before :-) He is now lying here in bed beside me, fast asleep, very high cuteness factor ! Today we went to a family park called the Fjölskyldu og húsdýragarðurinn where we looked at animals and ate some hot dogs :-) Too bad it was cold today, otherwise we would have explored more of the park, but the young man is just getting well from pneumonia, better not make him sick again ! (his mother would kill me, or worse, refuse to play Carcassone with me). I'm tucking in for the night soon, the little guy will wake early. Eurovision finished, Greece won. Hmmm, the musical taste of Europe is not the same as mine. Steingrímur seemed to like the Eastern European songs, he was on all four rocking back and forth when some of them played :-) Good night for now !

Eurovision smeurovision

So, we didn't get to the finals in this years Eurovision song contest. That will spare us the horror of looking at that awful costume that the singer was wearing again. Yuk ! Anyway, will be cheering for Ukraine or Norway on Saturday. Heja Norge !

Spiderman - a hamster life has ended

Hildas hamster died during the weekend. The poor sod got an infection that killed it in 2 days. May he rest in peace. As soon as I get him buried. He is actually still in a box in my freezer. Ehrm.

Akureyri, sweet Akureyri

Great Whitsun weekend !!! I travelled on Friday to Akureyri, the biggest town in N-Iceland. My sister and her family had rented a summer house and me and Hilda were invited to come along together with my mother. We left Reykjavík around 10 in the morning, with about 400 km to go we wanted to make a early start. The trip went well, we stopped at Geitaskarð, a farm owned by my aunt and there we met her and her son. My nephew Ólafur Steinar used the chance to crawl around in the grass, under careful supervision since there was lamb shit everywhere :-) We arrived at the summerhouse around 7, and wow ! It is the greatest summerhouse I've ever been in; expensive tv and video, dishwasher, laundry room, quality hot tub ! And the beds were great ! I slept in a double bed with my mother... only to find out that she snores like a freight train :-) Still, I got plenty of rest :-) We used the weekend to see the sights in Akureyri, and a must was of course The Christmas House ! It really looks like the Ginger bread house from the Hanzel and Gretchen story, but inside it is stuffed with christmas decorations and other christmas-related stuff ! They have christmas music on, a nice fire burning and icelandic hanged lamb hanging from the ceiling. Kinda weird.... but a must see, I guess. The greatest adventures came when we went to the tiny town of Hjalteyri, where we saw a whale swimming just by the shore ! Amazing ! It is the largest whale I've seen, yet it was not one of the biggest species. It was a great experience, we were all thrilled :-) But another great sight was waiting .... a HUGE iceberg had come into Eyjafjörður (the fjord where Akureyri lies), almost a 100 m high ! It was a majestic sight ! We had seen two smaller icebergs on Húnaflói-bay on our way to Akureyri but hello, they were tiny compared to this giant. We stopped in the village Árskógssandur where we looked at it through my binoculars, it was really great. So, the weekend was a great success, we relaxed, ate good food (burned some food due to some inexperience in the gas grill department) and just had a great time ! Yet when I came home Monday evening, I was dead tired after the long drive. But it was worth every second !

Lazy weekend

I spent the weekend relaxing mostly. Did a spot of shopping on Saturday with my sister, but spent the evening at home, alone. Took a long, hot bath with Body Shop Milk powder in it. Just lay there steaming, reading a book and sipping my Pepsi Max. Just luuuuvely :-) Sunday I spent at work, testing our new archiving and filing system for faults. Found 9. Not bad I guess, considering everything. When I came home I had a nice surprise visit from my friend Kata and her daughter Salka. We chatted for awhile but when they left I melted down into the sofa and watched TV all evening. The evening was rounded up by taking yet another long bath. So, now I hed for bed, relaxed and well rested after the weekend. New week, here I come !

Proud mum :-)

My daughter called me yesterday to tell me the results of her final exam in the story of Snorri Sturluson. She got a.....10 ! No mistakes, just a perfect 10 :-) And this is the grade she has been getting for most of her exams this winter, the lowest grade she's got is 9. I just have to boast a little, I'm just so proud of her :-)
