The Wave
This is a painting called "The Wave" by the japanese artistKatsushika Hokusai (1760-1849). Tsunamis are not a new phenomenom, they have been with us throughout history.
I´m the goofy fruit of the ha-ha bush
I am at loss for words. The scale of the Indian Ocean tsunami disaster is enormous. The heartwrenching tales of missing families, dead babies and mass graves just make one devastated. One story in particular got to me. Little Hannes Bergström, not even 2 years old, that was found alone on a beach in Phuket. His father was later found alive, but his mother is still missing. The video of that little boy in the hospital really broke my heart. It is unreal to think about all the pain and grief people are dealing with over there. The only thing we can do is pick up the phone and make a donation for the relief funds. And light a candle for the victims.

I can't sleep. There is a snowstorm raging outside and it´s making way too much noise. I actually thought at one point that the window was going to give in and my room would be filled with snow. And yes, as usual during a storm, all the water got sucked out of my toilet. Jolly. Brrrr, will try a meditation technique that my friend Dagmar Vala taught me to try to sleep now. Or just bump my head repeatedly against the wall. Whatever works. I WANT TO SLEEP NOW ! (yes, I have gone mad, leave me alone)
Merry Christmas, ho ho ho ! Am in bed, happy and full after a wonderful day. Am going to read Kleifarvatn, a crime novel I got from my friend Sif. Can´t wait to try all the new games I got, hellooo dear friends, soooon you have to visit and play with me :) Thank you thank you all, for presents, Christmas cards and everything. Ho ho ho !
Life goes on.... I gave a statement at the police office today. Learned that the guy I hit wasn't wearing a seatbelt. AMAZING that he survived ! With only minor injuries !!!! I also visited my car (or what's left of him). I found out that I have to pay big money for the tow-truck that removed it from the accident site and also from the police technicians to Kópavogur, where it is currently kept. And yes, it costs 850 kr pr. day to keep it there. Am trying to get rid of the wreck for as much money as possible. Anybody wanna buy a wrecked Nissan Almera 1998 ? Anyways, feast your eyes with the picture of my bruised knees, posted above.
Just had a serious car crash, my car is dead (not covered by insurance that pays for damage caused by me) but I'm unhurt. The guy I hit only had minor injuries, but his car is ruined too. Merry christmas ! This is what happens when a sleepy woman is driving a car after a long day, I didn't notice the cars stopping since the lights were still a distance away, pushed the breaks way too late. The car I hit hit another car, so there were three people involved, and the car in the middle resembles a harmonica. Amazing we are all ok, apart from the usual whiplash and general soreness. The guy in the middle car also got a cut on the forhead. Am feeling rather down, since my financial situation is definately going to be hurt by this :( But who cares, I came out alive and kicking, no broken ankle this time !
Am starting to get a little stressed ! Too much to do before Christmas, ahhrrggghghh. Today I managed to buy some Christmas presents and thus brought the stress factor down a notch. Still, there is plenty of stress left, he he he. Am going nuts... eating pecan nuts on my sofa. Holidays are coming, holidays are coming !
Who hoooo ! I am always most awake late at night, I always am most active around 23:00 till 01:00. Amazing. And inconvenient, to say the least ! My friend Dagmar Vala at work is going to teach me some technique that will help me fall alsleep early. I hope it works. I'm good at keeping myself awake ! When I was a child I sometimes kept myself awake half the night, counting cars and trying to keep awake. Those days are over but it's still very hard to go to bed early. Maybe if Brad Pitt was in my bed.....
Sunday was spent with my sisters, baking christmas cookies, laughing, telling nasty jokes and drinking coffee. I brought 2 different kinds of dough, made with the kind help of Jói Fel, Icelands most famous baker. I thought up the devious plan of buying ready-made dough when my sister Steinka suggested we should get together and bake some cookies. Only I found out yesterday that two other sisters had that same, cunning plan. So much for being original :-) The two eldest obviously got all the baking genes, they made their own dough. I cut my Jói Fel dough into cookie-sized pieces and put them on the baking plate, who says baking needs to be a lot of work ? :-) At the end of the day we had 6 different kind of cookies divided between 5 sisters. Enough to munch on, at least until Christmas.... I hope.... Mmmmmmmm, cookies (slurp)
Hrpmhhh ! The last few days the papers and other media have been filled with news about a charity concert held at a church in Reykjavík. The aim was to collect money for children with cancer. Very nice indeed. Various stars, like opera singers and pop princesses "donated" their work to help the sick children. Only now it has surfaced that the stars actually got paid for appearing at the concert. They claim its not a fee, but only to cover expenses. HELLOOOOO ! One "charitable" opera singer got 700.000 IK, just to cover costs ??!!!! For whom ? His entire family ??? The other 4 artists appearing are supposed to have recieved less, but since no accurate information is available one does not know. Stories claim that the fees were much higher than claimed. Yet these people told the nation they were donating their work before the concert ! As it looks today, the "stars" of the concert will recieve more than the children with cancer fund. Ain't that great ? Charity really makes you feel all warm and fuzzy inside....
