Was reading an article on bbc.com. It was about the well meaning but misguided actions of people who find young animals on their own in nature. Frequently, people believe that the youngsters have been left alone and will die without help, and thus they take the animals home or to an animal shelter. What most people don't realize is that the parents are usually nearby. One should never remove any young animals from nature because their best chance of survival is with their parents in the wild. "Saving" them by taking them home could be their death. Here in Iceland it is most likely to find young birds because there are so few species of mammals here. Young birds that have left the nest are fed by their parents and often sit on the ground waiting. NEVER REMOVE A BABY BIRD FROM NATURE ! It is very difficult to keep them alive in captivity, and even harder to release them into nature again. Let nature do her job, leave the babies alone
